Plastic items can be bent hot or cold. The method used depends on the material, the item size and the requested quality. Bending is suitable for technical items such as aprons and screens, as well as promotional items such as sales displays and cases.
Hot bending includes warming up the plastic sheet with bridge wire until it is soft, bent and fixed during cooling. The plastic will then stay in shape. During hot bending, the material is not damaged and the strength remains the same, as if the material was moulded into shape.
We mainly use acrylic, PETG, PEHD500 and PC for hot bending. All types of plastic are on principle suitable for hot bending; however some types are more suitable than others.
We typically use thinner materials such as PEHD, PETG and PC and smaller items for cold bending. Acrylic is not suitable for cold bending.
Tensions arise during cold bending and the sheet may straighten out after processing.
